Research

Amedeo’s current research focuses on:

  • The history of European integration, with a specific emphasis on the PAN (Process-Actors-Narratives) analysis of ECJ judgments from the 1950s and the 1960s.
  • The formulation of a doctrine of EU pre-emption of Member States’ law-making and treaty-making powers, drawing upon comparative federalism insights from the Integration Through Law Project.
  • Purely internal situations within the EU Internal Market, namely situations that lie outside the scope of EU fundamental freedoms insofar as all their elements are confined within a single Member State.
  • State aids and tax rulings, the most controversial development in the area of State aids, involving systemic implications on the EU competence in the area of direct taxation and the prospect of  the establishment of a fiscal union.
