Fred Paxton is a PhD researcher on the Political and Social Sciences doctoral programme, with supervision from Professor Hanspeter Kriesi.

Fred’s research focuses upon populist radical right parties at the local government level in Europe. Drawing from an interdisciplinary background of History (BA from King’s College London) and Urban Studies (Erasmus Mundus MSc, 4 Cities), his research aims to draw out the particularities of populist radical right parties operating at the urban scale, and calls on elements of other disciplines such as urban geography and cultural studies.

His most recent work has analysed the performative style of populist radical right local government actors in Austria and Italy, and the discursive constructions of a new urban order through their creation of a sense of crisis.
