Biography

Jennifer Ashby is a PhD Candidate at the European University Institute, Florence (Italy). Her thesis, provisionally titled “Traversing myself”: Mina Loy and the Poetics of the Spiritual Body, explores the intersections between avant-gardism, modernism, and spiritual experimentation in the early twentieth century. 

She has a Master’s degree in ‘Modern Culture’ from University College London’s Literature Department and a Bachelor’s in English Literature and Language from Balliol College, Oxford University.  

Currently, she acts as an elected Postgraduate Representative for the British Association for Modernist Studies (BAMS) as well as an Editor of the BAMS-affiliated journal The Modernist Review. 

She is a co-founder of the successful international symposium Mapping Mina Loy Studies and has acted as a convenor for the European University Institute’s Queer and Feminist Studies interdisciplinary working group. 

She has published in Modernism/modernity and has presented papers at a number of international conferences.
