I work on Europe’s early modern history. Most at home I feel in the realms of social and economic history, but I value the fact that among early modernists the trenches and dividing lines between, for example, the social, the cultural and the artistic are not as deep and rigid as in the social sciences. My current PhD research zooms in on the relationship between the life cycle and early modern social order, analyzing the struggles of aging individuals to maintain their material well-being and social status, when declining forces threatened to make them unfit for work.
