I am a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, and Senior Researcher in Political Science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. I hold a PhD from the University of Konstanz, Germany, and have been Visiting Scholar at Harvard, Duke, and Rutgers.
I’m a comparative political scientist, working at the intersection of comparative political economy, political sociology, and comparative political institutions. Most of my recent work is on welfare state research, education and social investment policy, global social policy, party politics, and public opinion.
My book on the Political Economy of Higher Education Finance, published with Palgrave Macmillan, was awarded the German Political Science Association’s (DVPW’s) dissertation grant, the ESPAnet/JESP’s Doctoral Researcher Prize, and was shortlisted for the Deutscher Studienpreis.
Other work has appeared in the European Sociological Review, the Journal of European Social Policy, the Journal of European Public Policy, the Journal of Legislative Studies, the Journal of Social Policy, PS: Political Science and Politics, and in West European Politics.
I co-chair the CES’ Political Economy and Welfare Research Network and the Politics of Education Network (PEN).
