I am a PhD researcher in history at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. My dissertation examines the relationship between the changing leisure travel practices of German-speaking Central European women and the development of associated travel infrastructures between 1880 and 1914.

I argue that women’s increasing participation in leisure travel not only reflected infrastructural developments but also actively shaped them. This was not, however, a straightforward story of ‘progress’ or democratisation. Instead, infrastructural transformations entrenched new hierarchies. Inequality was not removed but reconfigured.

My research rests on a variety of primary sources that range from ego-documents (diaries, correspondence) to etiquette and guidebooks to ship, train, and hotel plans, as well as to visual sources such as photographs and print advertisements.

I hold an MA in Cultural History from Utrecht University, where my master’s thesis on female employees in the Weimar Republic won the Faculty Prize for Humanities. I also received the Hugo-Preuß-Prize from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena for the best thesis on the history of the Weimar Republic.

I have taught courses at Utrecht University and the University of Padova, and with experience in museum work and exhibition curation, I co-convened the Public History working group at the EUI. In October 2023, we organised a museum curation workshop in collaboration with curators from leading European institutions.
