Niels Hoek is a PhD researcher at the European University Institute, specialising in European and international environmental law, most notably nature conservation.  The PhD project explores a potential regulatory framework for light pollution within the European Union.

Niels holds a Master’s Degree from Tilburg University in Global Sustainability & Environmental law (magna cum laude). Prior to joining the EUI, he worked at Radboud University as a lecturer of European and international law. He has also been affiliated with NGOs such as the Dutch Butterfly Foundation and Natuur & Milieu (Nature & Environment).
