Youssef is a PhD researcher in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Prior to coming to the EUI, he studied at Sciences Po Rabat, Sciences Po Grenoble (Eiffel Excellence scholar) and Cardiff University. He worked for the Laboratorio de antropología aplicada y políticas públicas (FLACSO) in Buenos Aires, CERI (Sciences Po Paris) and the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Lebanon. At the EUI, he is also involved in a research project about the diffusion of modern tax policies around the world.
His PhD project investigates the conditions of regime durability of rentier states during times of fiscal stringency. He is a native Arabic and French speaker. Fluent in English, with working knowledge of Spanish and basic knowledge of Italian.
