Eight Episodes to discover the region through history and geography.
Published on: 28/08/2026
Many traces of the history of the Twentieth Century can be found in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and this documentary series explores them across geography and time.
In this documentary series, Mirko De Pauli and I guide you to discover how contemporary history impacted the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Situated at the border to Austria and Slovenia, the region and its people have witnessed multiple transformation from World War I to the economic boom in the 1960s.
History represents a valuable tool to understand present times and past trends: this documentary series comes as one of the many outcomes of the projects that the University of Udine organized with Harvard University and the Associazione Friuli Storia during 2025, when Gorizia/Nova Gorica were nominated European Capitals of Culture.
Through the cooperation with the Autonomous Region and Promoturismo FVG, the documentaries brought together students, professors, experts, and video makers to create 8 episodes that explain how local and European history found each other in the region.
