Jennifer Ashby is a PhD Candidate at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Her thesis explores the intersection of early twentieth century heterodox spiritualities and scientific discourse with avant-garde aesthetics, focalised through the artist and poet Mina Loy.

She received a Master’s degree in ‘Modern Culture’ from University College London’s Literature Department and a Bachelor’s in English Literature and Language from Balliol College, Oxford University.

She recently acted as an elected Postgraduate Representative for the British Association for Modernist Studies (BAMS) as well as an Editor for the BAMS postgraduate and early career researcher publication The Modernist Review.

She co-constructed the international symposium Mapping Mina Loy Studies with Dr. Jade French and Dr. Julia Heinemann. This involved a two day international conference with over 40 Loy scholars and an interative workshop with the Digital Humanities project Mina Loy: Navigating the Avant-Garde in August 2023.

Previously, she has also acted as a convenor for the European University Institute’s Queer and Feminist Studies interdisciplinary Working Group offering workshops, conferences, and book launches on topics such as women's literary history, queerness and disability, and the politics of peripheries.

She has published in Modernism/modernity, Women: a Cultural Review, Feminist Modernist Studies, and The Modernist Review and has presented papers at a number of conferences such as the International Society for the Study of Surrealism, the British Association for Modernist Studies, the European Network for Avant-Garde and Modernist Studies, and more.
