John Raimo is a cultural and intellectual historian of modern Europe with a particular focus on transnational histories of the book, reading, and publishing. His current research focuses upon Czechoslovakia, France, east and west Germany, and Italy in the postwar era.

John Raimo received his education at Princeton and Oxford Universities prior to studying history at Columbia University, l’École normale supérieure, and l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. John completed a PhD. in the modern European history at the Department of History at New York University. He now works as a postdoctoral fellow in the Max Weber Programme of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He has lived and worked in the US, Britain, the Czech Republic, Germany, France, and Italy. John’s broader fields of interest include modern European history, the history of the book and of reading, historiography, the history of scholarship, and intellectual history. His current research more closely tracks these subjects in Czechoslovakia, France, east and west Germany, and Italy from 1945 to 1970.

John's personal interests include cinema, contemporary literature, music, and following contemporary politics. In his spare time, John enjoys cooking, hiking, learning new languages, listening to and playing all sorts of music, photography, running, skiing, translating, travel, and writing.
