As of September 2023, I have joined the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the EUI. Before my arrival in Fiesole, I taught at the Central European University in Budapest, Uppsala University, the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and worked at the Copenhagen Peace Research Institute, later the Danish Institute for International Studies. I had guest professor positions at the Universities of Bremen, Ljubljana, Lublin, and Madrid (Autónoma).

I am a German and Italian citizen, growing up in Saarbrücken (FRG) at the French border, where I started my studies before the financial help of the Studienstiftung allowed me to pursue at Sciences-Po and the LSE. I took my PhD at the EUI (supervised by Steven Lukes and Susan Strange). My teaching and research covers modes of theorising in the social sciences, social and international theory, international political sociology, as well as concept and discourse analysis (power and recognition), usually applied to foreign policy analysis, diplomatic studies and security studies.

A central component of my work consists in mentoring young scholars and connecting scholars and research contexts mainly across Europe, but also beyond. I edited the Journal of International Relations and Development (2004-2008), the official journal of the Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA), which I also presided for two terms (2013-2019). During my time in the Steering Committee of International Relations (ECPR, 2004-2010), I initiated the Young Researchers Workshop, now taking place before the EISA conventions. I also took the lead in launching and organising an ISA pre-conference International Theory workshop for Early Career Scholars, when I was co-editor of the journal (2019-2023) and joined two WISC (World International Studies Conference) Early Career Workshops. Finally, I am regularly re-invited for conducting PhD workshops at universities (Coimbra, LSE, Queen Mary, Warsaw, and others).
